Grout lines have always been a hard area to keep clean in bathrooms as they fill up with dirt, detergent residue, mop water and often mould. Traditionally grout lines have been cleaned either by manual scrubbing with a tooth brush or by use of hazardous acids.

A better alternative to clean grout lines is with high pressure super heated dry steam. This is because the high pressure dislodges stubborn grime and the high temperatures destruct mould spores.

JetSteam steam cleaners (Tosca, Pro, Maxi) or Jetvac steam vacuums (Eco, Junior, Pro, Maxi) with +155ºC superheated 94% dry steam under 4-8 bar pressure are ideal for cleaning grout lines as the steam pentrates deep into the grout to melt and blast out grime without producing much excess residue.

How to Clean Grout Lines with a Jetsteam / Jetvac

When cleaning grout lines with a JetSteam steam cleaner or a Jetvac steam vacuum use a 'Pressure Lance' with the nylon detailing brush. The Pressure Lance provides a jet of high pressure concentrated steam and the brush is used to lightly agitate the grime. As steam does most of the work the Pressure Lance with detailing brush only needs to lightly contact the grout line and there is no need for heavy scrubbing like the old toothbrush method.

To clean follow the steps below:

1. Connect the Pressure Lance tool with a nylon detailing brush (triangle best) attached to the steam hose (if on floor use extension poles).
2. Starting in a corner with the steam on high, slowly run the Steam Lance with brush down the length of the grout line with light contact. Run the length of the grout line 2-4 times until most grime has been removed.
3. Repeat the above step on every grout line. Most grout lines will only require going over once. Generally grout lines on shower recesses or near toilets and basins will require extra passes.
4. Once all grout lines have been steamed and grime has been blasted out; dry wipe up the grime with a cloth or microfibre pad.
5. After the grout lines have been cleaned steam clean the floor using the Rectangular Floor tool with microfibre pad or steam vacuum floor tool.

If the floor is regularly cleaned using steam instead of wet mopping, the grout lines will take much longer to get dirty as minimal water deposits are left behind.

How to Clean Bathroom with a Jetsteam / Jetvac

The most efficient way to clean a typical sized bathroom with a JetSteam or Jetvac using a 'Pressure Lance' with the nylon detailing brush and the 'Steam Mini Mop' with microfibre pad. The Pressure Lance provides a jet of high pressure concentrated steam and the brush is used to detail clean smaller areas like taps, drains, rails, toilets etc. The Steam Mini Mop is used to clean the larger areas like floors, walls and shower recesses.

To clean follow the steps below:

FITTINGS - Using the High Pressure Lance detail clean around the basin, taps, drain, hand rails and mirror. After steaming use a cloth to collect grime and dry.

TOILET - Using the High Pressure Lance or Toilet Brush detail clean the toilet water chamber, lid, seat, rim, inner bowl and outer s-bend.

WALLS - Using the Steam Mini Mop or Tirangle Swivel Tool with a cloth clean the shower recess and bathroom walls. Start from the top and work down in sideways motions. The heat of the steam will melt grime or soap scum and the microfibre pad will collect the grime. * If the bathroom walls are heavily soiled use the Triangle Swivel brush with bristles exposed to break up grime more efficiently and wipe with a cloth.

FLOORS - Using the Steam Mini Mop or Floor Tool with a microfibre pad steam clean the floor. Steam will emulsify the soiling and the microfibre will collect the grime. * Cleaning tiled bathroom floors with steam will also prolong the time it takes for the grout lines to become heavily soiled as minimal water residue is left behind.

In total cleaning of a regular sized bathroom on a daily or weekly basis will take approximately 4-5 minutes to complete and one microfibre cloth/pad (washable).

How to Clean Toilets with a Jetsteam / Jetvac

When cleaning toilets or urinals with a JetSteam steam cleaner or a Jetvac steam vacuum use a 'Pressure Lance' with the nylon detailing brush. The Pressure Lance provides a jet of high pressure concentrated steam and the brush is used to lightly agitate the stubborn grime. As steam does most of the work the Pressure Lance with detailing brush only needs to lightly contact the toilet surface.

To clean toilets follow the steps below:

WATER TANK - Start at the top of the toilet by steaming the water cannister and button region then dry with a cloth.

LID - Steam the lid of the toilet on the front and back then dry with a cloth.

SEAT - Clean the seat of the toilet steaming top and the bottom, paying extra attention to the hinge joint where bacteria often breads.

RIM - Aim the high pressure jet of steam directly into the rim and slowly work your way around. You will most likely see dark grime fall from the rim into the bowl. If using a Jetsteam Maxi or Jetvac Junior inject a burst of water injection to flush out grime.

BOWL - Steam the from the top near the rim down to the water. If there are any water marks (calcium/rust) steam and agitate these. Once the toilet has been steamed flush to get rid of grime.

OUTER - The last step is to steam clean the out bowl and the s-bend. Start at the top of the s-bend first steaming the grime to the floor. Then move onto the outer bowl steaming grime down to the floor once again. Finish by steaming the small gap between the toilet bowl to blast out grime.

These 6 simple steps should take a couple of minutes to complete. Once finished simply clean the remaining grime of the floor.

Plug holes and s-bends get filled with all types of horrible gunk and grime. In a bathroom or kitchen typical grime can include food, soap, fats, oils, mould, hair and more. This grime not only slowly chokes the pipes preventing water to properly drain, but it can also cause gasply odours.

Traditionally drians have been cleaned with hazardous caustic drain cleaners and unblocked with plungers. A better alternative to clean plug holes and drains is with high pressure steam. In total cleaning of a drain takes about one minute with no manual pumping or use of hazardous chemicals.

How to Clean Drains & Plug Holes with a Jetsteam / Jetvac

When cleaning plug holes and s-bends with a JetSteam steam cleaner or a Jetvac steam vacuum use a 'Pressure Lance' with the round Plunger detailing tool. The Pressure Lance provides a jet of high pressure concentrated steam and the Plunger creates an air seal around the plug hole. As steam does the work there is no need for a plunger or drain cleaning chemicals. Instead to clean a drain simply:

1. Connect the Pressure Lance with the round Plunger tool to the steam hose.
2. Place the Plunger tool directly over the plug hole in bath, basin, or sink.
3. Turn on steam at low pressure for 30 seonds to melt grime and destroy mould spores.
4. Increase steam to high pressure for another 30 seconds to continue breaking down grime and to blast grime further down the drain.
5. Remove the Plunger from the drain and rinse with water to test drainage. If water is still draining slow or mould is still visible repeat the process.

A drain usually takes about one minute to clean, unblock, sanitise and deodourise.
